What should my art website look like?

Your website should mimic an art gallery experience. Think about how art is displayed everywhere in the world—in museums and galleries. They all look the same: minimalist, monochromatic walls (usually white), the art is well-lit and on the wall, and there’s nothing to distract from viewing the art. Just a small placard with information about the piece, size, medium, maybe a description, and a price. That’s what your website needs to look like. The problem most artists face is they treat their website like a canvas or a photographic composition, adding fonts, colors, backgrounds, slideshows, music, and all sorts of elements. This violates the paradigm. Your website should clearly communicate that it’s an art gallery experience where visitors can look at, appreciate, and buy art. There’s alchemy in that simplicity.
