Should I never discount my artwork?
This is a myth that doesn’t apply to most artists. The rule about never discounting comes from the high-end gallery world and applies to maybe 0.1% of artists. If you’re selling direct, you have flexibility. More work actually sells at a discount than at full price. Discounting is a tool in your toolbox that you can choose to use or not use depending on the situation. It’s not a hard and fast rule that applies under all circumstances. While it’s true that many buyers do pay full price, having the option to discount when needed can help you make sales rather than lose them.
