What's the most important early metric that predicts the revenue potential of an art business?

The number one most predictive early metric is the number of new customers your business acquires per year. If you’re acquiring new customers across all price points (from $25 items to $5,000+ pieces) and you’re marketing consistently, a large portion of those customers will come back and buy again, then again, then again. This is how you build a collector base. Mathematically, acquiring 150 customers in a year gives you exponentially more potential than acquiring 6 customers, because you have more people to market to for repeat purchases. Remember, it’s easier to get an existing customer to buy again than to get a first-time buyer. This is why having a range of pricing including low-cost merchandise matters so much—it maximizes your customer acquisition across different entry points. Focus on growing your customer count, and the revenue will follow as you nurture those relationships over time.
