How should I think about long-term commitment when building an art business?

Artists will be creating artwork for the rest of their lives, often well into their 80s, 90s, or even past 100. This is fundamentally different from most other professions. If you start making the difficult decisions now—doing the marketing and business tasks you don’t enjoy—you’ll be rewarded tremendously over the 20, 30, 40, or more years you have left in this business. Make decisions with a long-term horizon rather than focusing only on immediate results or what you can achieve in the next 6 months. The sheer number of years you have ahead makes the effort worthwhile.
