Which social media platform is best for selling art—Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or others?
Instagram makes the most sense because it’s a visual search engine and you create visual work. Facebook is essential because in the United States, baby boomers have the most purchasing power and they’re primarily on Facebook. You could build a following on TikTok or Twitter/X, but the younger TikTok audience buys less art. The real key isn’t which platform—it’s that you cannot just post art repeatedly and expect results. You must share personal stories and context. The modern algorithm is incredibly smart with 136,000+ data points per user. It doesn’t matter how many followers you have; if you create valuable, varied content that includes your personal story, the algorithm will find your audience across multiple ‘lanes’ (your art style, your background, your interests, your location) rather than just putting you in the ‘wall art’ lane repeatedly.
