I'm preparing for my first in-person art show and I'm unsure what work to bring. I paint plein air ocean scenes, but I also have older work in different subjects. Should I focus on one series or bring a mix?

Don’t overthink defining a series or niche early on. Your job isn’t to pick your niche—your audience tells you what it is through what actually sells. Bring your best pieces across different subjects to the show and see what resonates. Often what sells is a mix, not just one series. The artist themselves becomes the brand as much as any single subject matter. Get feedback from the market first: take what you think are your strongest pieces, have conversations with people at the show, and let actual sales guide you. You can always add, drop, or bring back different work—your career is about constantly creating. The key is not to create work in isolation and never show it to anyone. Get it out there and learn what connects.
