Do I need to completely throw out my existing body of work to pivot?

No, you don’t have to reinvent the entire wheel, throw out your entire collection, or if you’ve been a photographer for thirty years, archive all your images and start shooting completely new stuff, spending years doing it. You can do quick, laser-focused tests—try a new thing, then another new thing, then another. See what feedback you get over those experiments. If you get a bunch of positive feedback on one and quiet response on the others, you can go all in on the successful one. You can hold onto your current ‘branch’ while reaching for new ones, only letting go when you find something firmer.
