What is effective frequency and why does it matter for artists?

Effective frequency is the number of times a person needs to be exposed to your message before they take action or make a purchase. Think of seeing a Coca-Cola billboard, then hearing a radio ad, then seeing a TV commercial—it might take 10 exposures before you finally think ‘I need a Coke.’ For artists, this means you must stay visible consistently. Studies show that one post per month for 13 months delivers significantly better results than 13 posts over 13 weeks, because the monthly cadence keeps you top-of-mind over time. When your marketing stops—even if your artwork posting was strong for a period—people forget about you. Consistency and repeated exposure are more important than intensity followed by silence.
