Why is it so important to start building my art business as young as possible?
Creatives will never stop creating—they will keep creating until their body physically doesn’t allow them to do so. This means you likely have 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, or even 70+ years left as a creator. Given this long time horizon, it’s critical to get the business fundamentals right as young as you can. Momentum is real and it compounds, but only if you’re doing the basics and working on the right things consistently. The older you get, the harder it becomes, though it’s still possible at any age. You don’t want to end up in your 80s or 90s, unable to move your work easily or do shows, having never built the business infrastructure. Starting young gives you the maximum time for your efforts to compound.
