What should I do with my website in the first year—how much should I focus on design and details?

Don’t obsess over aesthetics or small design details in your first year. Your website will change and evolve many times as you grow, so perfectionism early on is a waste of energy. Focus on functionality: Is it easy to navigate? Can people buy from you? Are your best pieces visible? Is your contact info clear? Those basics matter far more than the size of your logo or font choices. Spend your time and energy on marketing, creating content, building your email list, and growing your social media presence. Those activities drive traffic and sales. The website should be good enough to convert visitors into customers, but it doesn’t need to be a design masterpiece on day one. Refinement comes later once the fundamentals are working.
