What advice do you have for stay-at-home parents trying to build an art business?

Take it day by day. Identify what you can absolutely rely on versus what’s unpredictable in your schedule. Build your work plan only around the hours you realistically have—if your toddler naps for one hour, plan for one hour of work, not five. Don’t set expectations based on what a full-time artist can do. You’ll burn out and feel disappointed. It’s nearly impossible to work while actively caring for young children, so find pockets of time when they’re asleep or occupied. As kids get older, you’ll gradually get more capacity. Do a little bit at a time with what you have, and don’t compare yourself to artists without childcare responsibilities. Lower your weekly goals so you can actually achieve them and feel accomplished.
