Should I study successful artists' business practices, not just their art?

Absolutely. You’re constantly taught art history, periods, techniques, and famous artist names, but nowhere do they teach you to study the Masters of Business. Study artists and photographers who have built successful businesses over decades. Look at those who’ve been at it 20-30 years and have grown substantial businesses. Examine their websites carefully: look at their product range (successful ones offer 189-220+ different products from single images), their pricing structures (often ranging from $25-45 at the low end to $60,000+ at the high end), how they present themselves and their story, and how they structure their online presence. These business practices are just as important to study as artistic technique. Understanding how successful artists built sustainable businesses over time provides a roadmap you can follow.
