Do I need to have a niche as an artist, or can I work in different mediums and styles?
You absolutely do not need to have a niche. Many successful artists work across multiple styles and mediums. Here’s the key: you don’t get to decide if you have a niche—your customers do, and they’ll tell you through their purchases. After you get enough eyeballs on your work, one of two things happens: either 80% of your sales come from 20% of your work (Pareto’s law), which means you’ve found a niche and should lean into it, or a variety of everything sells. The latter happens when you become the brand—people connect with your story and creative eye, so they buy across your entire body of work. Don’t try to force a niche or limit yourself artificially. Create what inspires you, get it in front of people, and let the market guide you.
