How should artists think about their online presence like a physical art gallery during Q4?
Everything you’re doing online should mimic what works in a physical art gallery. If a gallery does it, it works; if you’re doing something they don’t do, stop. During the holidays, what does a gallery do differently? It extends its hours, puts giftable work up front, posts a shipping cutoff on the door, and staffs up for walk-ins who’ve never bought art before and need a conversation. Every one of those has a digital equivalent. Your website is your gallery, and you need to keep it ‘open’—meaning you need to be marketing consistently, because holiday shoppers buy on their schedule (late at night, on lunch breaks, Thanksgiving weekend). If your gallery isn’t open—if you’re not visible and present—whoever is open will get the sale.
