What is the 50/50 rule for selling art?
Art sales are based 50% on the quality of the art and 50% on who the artist is—their story, what makes them unique, what makes them tick. Most artists mistakenly think it’s 95% about the art and only 5% about them, or they believe they can build a big business with it being 100% about the art. This is wrong. Buying art is an emotional decision, and people love knowing who the artist is. If someone visits your profile and sees only a grid of images with barely any information about you as a person, they can’t bond with you or find shared interests. You need to provide a window into your world—where you live, what you do in your free time, your interests, whether you have kids, what you struggle with. Humans bond with other humans over shared interests and mutual experiences. When you start revealing who you are (without becoming a reality TV star), your business will change for the better.
