I tried marketing during the holiday season but made no sales. What could be wrong?

There are typically three scenarios. First, you need to validate your art—if your work isn’t selling offline to people who aren’t friends or family, it won’t sell online either. You must get marketplace validation before investing heavily in an online presence. Second, if you’re brand new, understand that building an online business takes time—sales aren’t a light switch you flip. Third, if your site has been up for a while but you haven’t been actively marketing all year (building your email list, posting regularly, running contests, sending emails), then doing a minimal promotion during the holidays won’t generate results. You need to market consistently all year long. The outputs equal the inputs.
