What is newsjacking and how can artists use it?
Newsjacking means watching for cultural moments when everyone is talking about something, then creating relevant work that rides that wave of attention and shares. The key is authenticity—only newsjack topics that genuinely align with your values and brand. When done right, it means creating work about people, events, or moments you truly care about, at times when public interest is naturally high. You can either respond immediately to breaking news or watch for predictable moments (like anniversaries or scheduled events) and prepare in advance. The work must feel like a natural extension of who you are as an artist, not a cynical cash grab.
