What should I show on my Instagram profile besides my art?
Right now, if someone visits your profile, they likely see just a big grid of images—art after art after art. Artists love hiding behind the canvas; photographers love hiding behind the lens. This needs to change. Show who you are as a person: What do you look like? What’s your process? Where do you live? What do you do in your free time? Are you a dog or cat person? Do you ride bikes, paddle kayaks, do crossfit? Are you a foodie? Do you cook? Beer, wine, or teetotaler? Do you garden, race cars, watch romantic comedies? Do you have kids or care for aging parents? People bond over shared interests and mutual suffering—like screaming at kids to get out of bed, stepping on Legos, or scrubbing crayons off walls. If none of this is visible on your profile, people can’t deepen their connection with you. You don’t have to become a Kardashian with a film crew following you—just provide a consistent window into your world and what makes you you.
