Why isn't posting my art on social media enough to grow my following and sell work?

The art alone is not enough. Your art pieces are commercials. If all you do is share art, art, art, art all day long — what I call the ‘Art Gatling gun’ — no one is going to tune into that channel. You would never walk up to someone at a gallery opening and say ‘art, art, art, buy my art, here’s a sale’ nonstop. Social media is meant to be a conversation. People need to know who you are as a human being, your story, what you do when you’re not creating, why you create what you create. Human beings are wired to buy from people they know, like, and trust. If visitors can’t learn about you by visiting your profile, you’ll never grow meaningfully on social media. The art is the commercial; your story and personality are the programming that gets people to watch.
