Should I build a website before I start trying to sell my art?

No. Building a website before you’ve validated that people will buy your work is backwards. The website industry is very good at convincing artists they need websites first, but that’s the wrong order. Many people spend months building websites and investing $50-100+ before they even have a sellable product or proof that anyone wants to buy. Instead, focus on getting the transaction first. All you need is a way to accept payment - PayPal, Venmo, Square, or even cash - and your product. Validate that people will buy before investing in a website.
