Should I pivot my art business if my teaching content gets more engagement than my artwork?
You don’t get to decide what your niche is - your paying customers decide that for you. Don’t wait until you have the perfect niche figured out before getting started. Pay attention to what resonates. For example, one artist who was selling paintings discovered she was exceptionally good at painting clouds. She started making tutorial content about her cloud-painting technique on Instagram and got 125,000 views. The audience was telling her she should be teaching people how to paint clouds. She pivoted - now all she does is teach cloud-painting workshops and she’s thriving. This doesn’t mean you’re a bad artist if you pivot to teaching. It means you’re listening to what the market is telling you they want from you. There’s no written rule that says you must build your business one specific way. Multiple revenue streams are valuable - teaching, workshops, selling originals, prints, licensing - as long as it’s legal and it works, pursue it. Stay flexible and let customer response guide your direction.
