What is the fishbowl technique for collecting email addresses at art shows?
The fishbowl technique is a proven method for gathering email addresses at art shows and fairs. Place a bowl (or champagne bucket, or similar container) at your booth asking people to leave their business card for a free giveaway or drawing—typically for a piece of art, print, calendar, or other prize. This technique works nearly 100% of the time when tried. Despite being simple and traditional, very few artists use it consistently. The key is that people are willing to share their contact information in exchange for the chance to win something.
