Why do artists fail at this giveaway tactic, and what can I do differently?
Most artists fail because they don’t set the right expectations upfront. They try it once or twice, get rejected, and quit. Or they get one campaign over the line with poor results and give up. The two critical points to understand are: first, it’s a numbers game in terms of people you contact—many will ignore you and that’s normal. Second, it’s a numbers game in the number of times you run campaigns before you get a solid win. Commit to executing this tactic at least ten times before you reevaluate. Most people quit right when they’re on the verge of success. When you prepare yourself mentally for both these realities, you won’t get demotivated and you will eventually win.
