How important is having support and community when building an art business?

Support and community are absolutely critical—they’re often the difference between quitting and succeeding. You’ll have questions week in, week out, for the rest of your art-selling career. Week 1, year 1, year 5, year 10—there will be issues with social media platforms, email strategy, pricing for shows, negotiating with galleries, booth setups, advertising decisions, merchandise choices, and whether to run sales. These questions never go away. Without built-in support and community, this is why artists quit. When you have a place to go with these questions—whether it’s regular coaching sessions, office hours, peer groups, or accessible experts—you don’t get stuck. You don’t spend hours searching forums or pulling your hair out. You get answers and keep moving forward. Additionally, going through the learning journey with peers who are struggling with the same challenges provides accountability, encouragement, and shared learning. This combination of expert guidance and peer community has become perhaps the most important factor in artist success.
