I'm nearly 80 and starting over after losing my portfolio. How long does it take to build a sustainable art business?

There are no guarantees on timelines or ROI—anyone promising that is selling snake oil. Some people see returns in weeks, others in 5 years, most are somewhere in between. It varies wildly based on your niche, market, tech skills, how much time you invest, and whether it’s full-time or a side pursuit. What matters is doing the work consistently. If you’ve got time to create, split it—spend half creating new work and half promoting it in any way you can. Call galleries, don’t just look at them online. Use that time to actively market. The key is not quitting and staying consistent with whatever effort you can sustain.
