What's the most important thing artists need to focus on before investing in website tools or services?
The number one thing to solve first is getting your art in front of eyeballs and knowing for sure that it will sell. Nobody has a website problem—everyone has a marketing problem. This was learned early on when artists would sign up for beautiful websites, but then cancel months later because they weren’t selling anything. When asked what they’d done to market, the answer was ‘nothing’—they just put up the website and expected people to find it and buy. A website doesn’t solve your business problem. You must learn how to market and get eyeballs on the art. That’s the only thing that moves the needle. Everything else—your website, your tools, your platform—is secondary to learning how to consistently market yourself.
