How do I handle copyright concerns when using photo editing software and apps to create my art?
Don’t let copyright fears paralyze you. The practical reality is: you’ll know when you have a copyright issue when you receive a cease and desist letter. Until then, keep creating. Every piece of art and music ever created borrows from other work — that’s the nature of creativity. In the real world, it’s easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission. If you do receive a cease and desist, simply apologize and stop — most people are satisfied with that. Copyright only becomes a serious legal issue when you’ve made millions of dollars, at which point you can afford to split proceeds or settle. Don’t let theoretical legal concerns stop you from creating and marketing your work. Just start, and if an issue arises, deal with it then.
