How much does an artist's skill level or style matter for success?
Trying to pick which artist will be successful based on skill or style is like picking horses at a race—nearly impossible. There’s so much more at play than just the quality or style of the work. Art sales are not a meritocracy based purely on the quality of the work. Some artists with technically amazing skills struggle to sell, while others creating what some might consider ‘snapshots’ sell incredibly well. The difference usually comes down to story, marketing consistency, and whether people connect with the artist as a person. You won’t know what will succeed until you actually market it and get feedback from your audience. Your audience decides your niche and what sells best—you don’t get to pick that ahead of time.
