How can I increase my average order value?
Retail stores have used pre-purchase and post-purchase opportunities for decades. Before checkout, they present impulse items (like the drinks, candy, gum, and magazines at the hardware store checkout). After purchase, they might ask you to round up for charity. Both tactics raise the average order value (AOV). You can do the same: before someone checks out on your site, offer to add a complementary item like a coffee mug for $12. After they’ve added that, offer a photo book for $40 because they’re buying multiple items. These are proven business tactics that help you raise AOV without being pushy. When you have a full range of products at different price points, these opportunities become natural and easy to implement.
