Why is it important to be your own 'inventor' as an artist or photographer?

As an artist or photographer, you invent your own products—your paintings, your images. This is your biggest advantage and arbitrage. You can iterate quickly. If something isn’t resonating with your audience, you can create something new. You can test different niches, styles, and subjects without the cost and time constraints other entrepreneurs face. The most successful artists take advantage of this. They’re always creating new work, paying attention to what resonates, listening to their audience, and trying new things. One successful artist created a Santa image three weeks before Christmas and sold thousands of dollars of it. He’s always been doing this—that’s why he sells over $100,000 a year. Don’t force content that doesn’t resonate. Keep inventing, testing, and iterating. You can’t lose by doing this.
