Why isn't my social media working even though I post my artwork consistently?

You’re likely running what’s called the ‘Art Gatling Gun’ - posting nothing but artwork, process videos, studio reveals, art sales announcements, and more artwork all day long. Then you wonder why the algorithm seems rigged against you, why you only get other artists following you, and why no one is buying. Here’s the reality: you would never behave this way in person. If someone met you at a gallery opening, you wouldn’t just say ‘look at my art, buy my art, here’s my art’ over and over. You’d have a normal conversation, share who you are, discuss your vision and background. Your artwork is like commercials - nobody tunes into a channel that shows only commercials. Social media platforms won’t promote that content either because it doesn’t keep people engaged. You need to create ‘programming’ that earns the right to show the ‘commercials.’ The programming is you: your personality, your story, your humor, your interests outside of art, where you’re from, what makes you tick. Human beings make purchasing decisions from people they know, like, and trust. If your content gives viewers no opportunity to understand who you are as a person, they’ll never connect enough to consider buying from you. It’s not about the quality of your art - it’s about connection.
