What should my art website look like to be effective?

Your website should mimic the paradigm of how art is viewed and sold in the physical world—which is an art gallery or museum. That means minimalist, monochromatic walls, art beautifully displayed, well-lit, with clear pricing and the ability to visualize work on a wall or in a frame. Avoid the common mistake of treating your website like a canvas with lots of colors, fonts, giant walls of text, slideshows, and things moving around. All that creative embellishment creates distractions that prevent people from seeing or buying your art. Keep it simple and gallery-like—that’s what clearly communicates to visitors that they’re there to view and buy art.
