How structured should my art marketing actually be?
Your art marketing should be shockingly structured—planned down to the day, every single day of the year. This surprises most artists because they’re typically not detail-oriented about marketing and business (though they are about their art). But the correct marketing plan for an art business is incredibly structured. You should have a 365-day marketing calendar that tells you exactly what to do each day, with templates, subject lines, and proven strategies. The major holidays serve as milestones and forcing functions within this structure. When you’re operating on the right marketing plan, there’s no guessing—you know exactly what you should be focused on at any given time. This level of structure is actually a blessing compared to other businesses that have to market into the void without clear seasonal buying patterns.
