I don't have a consistent style and work in multiple mediums—will this hurt my art business?

Absolutely not. The prevailing wisdom that you need a niche is largely nonsense. Many successful artists have no defined niche and create in multiple styles and mediums. You don’t get to decide if you have a niche—your buyers do. What often happens is either Pareto’s law emerges (20% of your work generates 80% of revenue, revealing a natural niche), or sales are spread across everything you create. Both scenarios are fine. Sometimes work that doesn’t sell initially will start selling years later once people get to know you as an artist. Art sales aren’t just about quality or subject matter—they’re about the artist. When people connect with who you are, everything can sell. Create what you love and what inspires you, and let your buyers show you what resonates.
