What's the basic framework for running a successful holiday sale promotion?

The basic framework is: warm up your audience by letting them know a sale is coming, offer them a discount during the sale period, remind them the sale is ending soon to create urgency, and include advertising if possible. This approach consistently works and gets you attention and eyeballs, which leads to more emails, traffic, and sales. There are both simple and advanced versions—run whatever you’re capable of executing. Each time you run it, you can add more sophistication. Even the basic version creates significantly more noise and attention than doing nothing.
