How long does it typically take artists to build a successful art business?

Artists need to adopt a long-term perspective. Many work for 20, 30, 40, or even 50+ years—the desire to create and sell never leaves. Success requires investing significant time, often years, to build consistently. Every successful artist had to invest a ton of time to reach their goals. Taking a short-sighted approach (focusing only on month-one or year-two results) keeps artists in the hobbyist zone instead of building a real business. With that long view, you have ample time to get the basics right.
