What kind of content should I be posting on social media besides my artwork?

You need to create programming, not just commercials. Your art is the commercials—the programming is you. Share who you are as a human being: where you’re from, where you got your creative eye, your story, your personality. Are you funny? Witty? Dark? Do you have stage fright or feel terrified being on camera? Do you struggle with self-doubt? Do you have a messy family or an imperfect life? Everyone has stuff in their life, and when people realize you’re being honest about yours, an immediate bond forms. Think about what happens at a gallery opening—you have conversations where you learn about each other, make connections, and discover commonalities. That’s what your social media should do: give people an opportunity to get to know, like, and trust you. Without that, you’ve lost them—they’re never coming back. Human beings are wired to make purchasing decisions based on people they know, like, trust, find funny, share something in common with, or can empathize with. None of those connections are possible with artwork alone.
