What should I focus on when I'm trying to establish myself as an artist?
Paint what you love—pick a genre or subject that gets you up in the morning and keeps you working late. Don’t rush through your work just to meet deadlines or external pressures. Take your time and make sure every part of the painting is strong, not just the main focal point. Pay attention to balance, symmetry, and all the different elements that make art good and sellable. Be true to yourself, but also be willing to experiment and evolve your style as you grow.
