How many hours should I expect to work on my art business versus creating art?

Be prepared to spend significant time on the business side - easily 40 hours a week on marketing, social media, website management, email, and administrative tasks, separate from creating art. If you love what you do, these hours won’t feel like a burden. Many successful artists work on business tasks in the morning when energy is high, then create in the afternoon. However, you don’t need to create every single day. Create when you feel inspired, and don’t feel guilty about days you don’t make art. The business development work is just as important as the creating. Balance will look different for everyone, and it will shift over time.
