What should photographers offering portrait sessions do differently to increase revenue?
Portrait photographers are leaving massive amounts of money on the table by only selling the session and delivering digital files. You need to actively sell prints and display options. Set up a physical display table at your shoots with samples of different print media types—canvas, metal, acrylic, art paper—in various sizes with pricing information. Have someone available to show parents these options while you’re shooting, let them handle the samples, and present time-sensitive package deals. Capture contact information and permission to follow up with gift reminders before Mother’s Day, Christmas, birthdays, and other occasions. The hardest part—getting the customer and their attention—is already done. Now you just need to ask for the additional sale. This approach can easily triple to quintuple your revenue per session.
