How long should I wait after a collector purchases a piece before approaching them about buying another work for their collection?

There’s no hard rule about waiting time, but focus on the relationship and the opportunity instead. If someone purchased quickly (for example, within 2 weeks of meeting you) and bought a significant piece, they’re a very warm lead. The best approach is to give them early VIP access to new work. Send a personal email when you release new work in a subject they love, saying something like: ‘Hey [name], I wanted to point out that I’m releasing a new body of work of [subject]. I know you love this subject, and I’m taking the time to share with you since you’re one of my VIPs. Let me know if you’re interested in something.’ Keep it personal and straightforward, not promotional. You’re offering early access, not pushing a sale. You can also mention upcoming gift-giving seasons or show them related products like merchandise or smaller prints.
