What's exciting about the current digital landscape for artists despite all the challenges?
Everything is niching down like crazy. Before, you might have one photographer killing it with California beach photography. Now there are 50 photographers crushing it with active communities around every imaginable niche—aerial beach photography, big wave photography, small wave macro photography, Newport Beach photography. Many of these niches have really large and loyal fan bases that can support a good-sized six-figure to multi-six-figure business. That wasn’t the case before. Also exciting is that with the emergence of new social platforms and venues where attention gathers, it really levels the playing field. If you get there early and learn how to tell stories and build followers, you can be really successful at generating attention for your work. Many artists have crushed Instagram and built huge businesses on the back of it.
