I have my first in-person art fair coming up. I've printed 40 of my landscape photographs and mounted them. What advice do you have for selling them at the show?
First, make sure you have a range of pricing—different sizes at different price points. Critical: offer different media types (glossy paper, canvas, metal, acrylic, possibly wood). You don’t need hundreds of samples, but if you offer five sizes, have all five visible in your booth. If you offer four media types, have a small sample of each on display. Don’t decide for your buyer what medium is best—let them choose. Many buyers don’t even know these options exist. Having physical samples lets them see, touch, and compare, just like in a clothing store. Also, don’t just focus on selling that day. Many people won’t buy on the spot, so have a contact form or method to capture their information—get names and emails from people who show interest. Read comprehensive guides on art fair strategy before your show, and study negotiation techniques since you’ll likely encounter price discussions.
