What's important to understand about how your sales mix might change as your career matures?

As your reputation builds and your prices increase, your sales composition will likely shift. You may make the same or more revenue with fewer transactions—selling fewer, higher-priced pieces rather than many small works. For example, at open studios, visitor numbers might drop to a third of what they once were after relocating, but sales remain strong or grow because you’re attracting more serious collectors willing to spend more per piece. This evolution is natural and sustainable. However, remember that the number of new customers you acquire remains one of the biggest predictors of future success—so even as average transaction size grows, don’t stop cultivating new collector relationships at various price points. Balance serving established collectors with continually expanding your base.
