How should I think about showing my art online versus in person?
Everything you do online should mimic what works offline. In the real world, you’re fully capable of talking about your art, displaying it, and selling it. You can articulate why you create, why you became an artist, and why you love it. That should be your paradigm for how you market and sell online. The problem is that most artists violate this paradigm online. They treat their website like a canvas instead of an art gallery. They post only artwork on social media instead of having real conversations. They forget all the interpersonal skills that work so well in person. Simply translate what you already do successfully in the real world to the online world, and you’ll see much better results.
