How should I evaluate the advice I receive about running my art business?

Before accepting anyone’s advice, ask two critical questions: Who are you, and what have you accomplished? Don’t automatically trust advice just because it sounds authoritative or comes from someone in the art world. Demand to see results. If someone tells you not to discount, ask them to name five successful artists making $100,000+ annually who follow that advice. If they can’t, dismiss the advice immediately. This applies to all business guidance—whether from bloggers, podcasters, other artists, or consultants. Protect your mindset fiercely by filtering out unqualified opinions. Only take strategic advice from people who have achieved the results you want to achieve, or who work directly with many people achieving those results and can show you the data.
