Why shouldn't I just ask a mentor or expert if my art will sell?

No mentor, consultant, or expert can tell you whether your art will sell—only the market can answer that question. The market is brutally honest and doesn’t care about credentials, effort, or anything subjective. A transaction either happens or it doesn’t. You must go directly to potential buyers and attempt to sell. Don’t outsource this validation to someone’s opinion. Your job is to put your product in front of real people and see if they’ll pay for it. That’s the only validation that matters.
