Why do so many artists believe their art quality alone should be enough to succeed?
This is a poisonous assumption that needs to be eliminated. The belief that ‘the strength and quality of my art should be enough to market my work’ is not based in reality - it’s not how the world works and never has been. No experienced business owner ever said the best product automatically wins. This assumption is cancer for your business because it causes you to waste energy, gets you demotivated, and prevents you from taking necessary action. The market tells you if your quality is enough - if your business isn’t at the level you want, then quality alone isn’t enough. You need both great work AND great marketing.
