My website feels too cluttered with too many categories on the landing page. How should I simplify it without making visitors click too many times?
The key is reducing categories without adding more clicks. Don’t create three or four broad categories on your homepage that then force visitors to click through to see all your existing subcategories—that adds friction. Instead, genuinely consolidate where it makes sense. For example, if you have ‘new releases’ and ‘bestsellers’, combine or remove one. If you have ‘western women’, ‘ranching’, and similar themes, merge them into one ‘western artwork’ category. You might also create a dedicated ‘originals’ category so buyers can go straight there instead of clicking into each product to check if an original is available. The goal is fewer, clearer categories visible immediately, not hidden menus. Before making changes, come with a specific plan of which categories to merge or remove, then get technical help implementing it.
