As a new artist, should my early social media focus be on sales and promotions, or on building an audience with non-salesy content?

In the beginning, prioritize authentic, engaging, and personal content that builds trust and attracts followers. Your own original videos and posts—showing your creative process, your studio, the stories behind your work, and your personality—are what make your account “fun” and worth following. Let automated posting tools handle occasional promotional posts (catalog features, subtle product mentions, periodic sales) in the background; those are fine and won’t hurt you, but they shouldn’t be your primary voice. The promotional posts serve people already interested; your original content is what draws new people in and builds emotional connection. Think of it as two parallel tracks: let automation quietly maintain a baseline of product visibility, while you personally create the compelling, story-driven content that grows your audience and establishes your brand. Over time, the audience you build with authentic content will be the ones who respond to those promotions.
